Back home from a wonderful and inspiring travel trip for teaching in the United States and in Germany.
The first stop was in Williston, Vermont in New England. The workshops were organized by Jennifer Hoag, Northeast Fiber Arts Center. Jennifer has a beautiful little fiber shop with a wide selection of knitting wool in all qualities and colours you can imagine! Of course you can also find wool and tools for felting! http://northeastfiberarts.com
Being surrounded by all these beautiful fibers all day long, made me wanting to knit again. I was happy that Jennifer took a little time to show me some techniques and then I started knitting by myself and couldn't stop anymore... During my travels I knitted especially in the airplane which made me having some interesting conversation and exchanges about knitting and fiber artwork.
Take a look at the pictures below and see the amazing results made by the students during the two workshops in Jennifers workshop space: Vessels and surface design.
Another wonderful experience was my stay in St. Louis, Missouri. It was very hot and humid at this time, but the beautiful studio from Lisa Hinrichs is very comfortable furnished with air conditioning. The Foundry Art Centre, where Lisas studio is a part of, is situated in St. Charles, a beautiful little village on the Missouri river near St. Louis.
It was very interesting to here about important historical facts and events in this area. I had no idea! I'm a lucky person because I got very good guides and explanations. What attracted me the most in this region was the confluence of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers. And it is actually the homeland of Mark Twain (Huckleberry Finn; Tom Sawyer).
I discovered also the amazing felt work of Lisa Hinrichs. She has a very sensitive eye for shapes and colour combination. All her work mirrors her architectural education. Have a look on her website:http://www.lisahinrichs.com/
It was a great workshop with a lot of fun and beautiful results!
My flight back from the United States took me directly to Germany, where I had another workshop to teach. My favorit one at this moment: the animal workshop.
Filzrausch in Göttingen is always a very nice place to teach, surrounded by all this colourful felting fibers! It is inspiring to work here in this nice atmosphere and the workshop participants achieved amazing results!
