Geometry inspires me in different ways since a long time. Geometric shapes in nature, geometric patterns in art and different cultures, sacred geometry. The bigger meaning of geometry fascinates me and how the underlying energetic geometric structures shape and manifest itself into the material world. Our nature, our world, everything is geometry.
In my earlier art pieces, I worked a lot with geometry.
I used geometry as a base. I loved exploring, how the outer forces during felting shaped the accurate geometric original form into a very poetic and organic form. The outer forces, exerted by me and the material characteristics impart this very individual creative expression to the geometric shape.
My new explorations I am working on since December 2020 consist in very small pieces. I use especially paper, merino wool and silk fibers.
Since quite a while I felt inspired by paper "Origami tessellations" from Eric Gjerde. So, I started experimenting.
One series is only with shades of white. The shades of white allow to explore the amazing play of light and shadow. The light highlights the beauty and the complexity of every little detail; the shadow gives it depths, vibrancy, plasticity, and structure.
So, it is in life too! Life is a captivating play of light and shadow.
Diving even deeper into the exploration of geometry, I now think that: geometry is like poetry.
For me working with geometry in my art is like meditation and it feels like a prayer. This is due to the repetition. It is surrendering to the underlying structure, to the complexity of the whole. Everything is connected. By creating in devotion and without resistance, everything inserts itself perfectly together. Pure harmony is the result. Working it with felt techniques allow to transform the shapes with my own forces and bringing in my very own creative expression, I shape it and make it become a poem.
